Screening of Bafta nominated documentary

Join us for a screening of The Cruel Cut in Central London, followed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers and other prominent voices in women's rights and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). This event is hosted by Manor Gardens' Dahlia Project, and kindly supported by Twitter.

Female Genital Mutilation or FGM is when a girl’s genitals are either partially or totally removed for non-medical reasons. Leyla Hussein, a campaigner and mother, was cut when she was seven years old. Four women held her down, while a fifth cut her. Leyla screamed for her mother to help her, before passing out. There are 66,000 women and girls living with the terrible consequences of FGM in Britain. And with an estimated 24,000 girls at risk of mutilation today, Leyla sets out on a campaign to eradicate FGM in the UK.

7.20pm - Panel discussion with Vicki Cooper (Director), Hoda Ali, Sarian Kamara and Leyla Hussein. The discussion will be chaired by British/ Eritrean journalist Hannah Pool.

8.30pm - Networking and drinks

All proceeds will go towards the Dahlia Project, which works to achieve an end to FGM by creating safe spaces to support individuals and societies affected by FGM, protect children from harm and empower communities to lead change. The Dahlia Project is run by Manor Gardens Welfare Trust.
