Building on our emergency food distribution during the pandemic, and our pop-up food co-op, which we've been running since the spring, Manor Gardens has come up with a new vision to defeat food poverty and reduce food waste in Islington.
We are now working with Islington Council and the GLA to devise a sustainable vision for our local town centre (the Nag's Head), setting up a community space with a food co-op, zero-waste cafe, activity space and pop-up recycling stalls to engage our local communities, provide jobs and training, and create partnerships with local businesses.
Our aim is to co-create this innovative space with input from all local residents so that it truly reflects the needs and desires of local people. We are setting up a series of community meals to chat to residents and stakeholders to help us develop our plan.
Our third community meal is on Thursday 23rd September at The Billiard Factory, 443-449 Holloway Road, London N7 6LJ. We will start at 5pm with discussions and groups talking about food insecurities, inequalities and what people want. Then at 7pm we are hosting a nutritious vegetarian and vegan community meal prepared by local people including graduates of the Community Cooks Programme.
Everyone is welcome! Please come along to our meal and interactive session to share your ideas with us.
